What can a hundred rubles buy?
Let’s take apart another Russian proverb:
Не имей сто рублей, а имей сто друзей.
It translates to Do not have a hundred rubles, but have a hundred friends in English. The proverb speaks of the value of friendship comparing it to wealth by using a negation in the first clause and the conjunction “а” to juxtapose the two.
